Serious game on how to shift the economy towards sustainable energy

Challenge

ABN-AMRO notices that their business customers are looking for how they can play a role in the energy transition. Until now, many customers approach this transition from their own perspective. ABN-AMRO wants its customers to experience that a good energy transition is only possible if the various sectors work together in close consultation.

In the game, four social sectors are represented as teams. The assignment for each team: make strategic choices to reduce CO2 emissions within the sector while remaining profitable. For a successful transition, the teams must coordinate their choices and work together.

Solution

Central to the game is the Scifflebox. On the game board, the teams immediately see the consequences of their choices: does it happen as they expect, does one team's choice affect another team, and what about the CO2 targets?

While playing, there is intense deliberation and insight into the consequences of certain choices. The result: an increasingly structured and joint approach.

Impact

People discover that cooperation is the key to a sustainable transition. They experience that they need each other to achieve their goals. A successful energy transition? That only occurs when they balance and continue to balance the interests of different sectors.
