Navy museum

Multiplayer game about the Cold War aboard the Marine Corps ship 'De Ruyter'

Challenge

Getting young people excited about history: how do you do that? A large part of the history of the Dutch Navy is on display at the Marinemuseum in Den Helder. Our aim: to let young people experience what it is like to work on a NATO mission on a naval ship during the Cold War.

To be successful, you have to work together

Together with the Marinemuseum, The New Base, Kloosterboer Décor and Sonic Picnic, we developed the Cold Storm experience in the old bridge house at the Naval Museum.

Solution

With the frigate De Ruyter you defend a convoy, on its way to Den Helder. Everyone gets their own tasks. But to be successful, you have to work together. Only then can you reach the port safely. Then missiles appear on the radar screen ... Do you keep your head cool and the ship on course?

Each player takes their position on the bridge of the naval ship.

Impact

Visitors experience what it is like to work aboard a naval ship. They learn about the Cold War and about weaponry at that time. There will also be a special teaching package around Cold Storm for secondary school students.
