Active and inspiring onboarding day for large groups

Challenge

A festive day during which 150 new civil servants are welcomed each month, get to know each other, and end by taking the oath of office.

The new civil servants form a very large and diverse group. They are of all ages, have different levels of education, and will be working in various locations within the municipality.

How can we create a day where we take advantage of these differences while avoiding the drawbacks? How can we ensure that everyone feels engaged on that day? What information absolutely needs to be shared, and what can be left out?

How do we create a day that leverages the benefits of people's diversity?

The questions are spread throughout the large church, requiring the teams to come up with a strategy to collect the tasks as quickly as possible.

Solution

After a joint welcome speech and an interactive introduction, the teams will compete against each other. A Scifflebox creates an organized chaos where they have to search for and answer specific questions about the municipality and the city of Amsterdam on the box. The teams can see and track their scores on a screen.

We see teams developing different strategies to answer as many questions as possible, and incorrect answers sometimes lead to heated discussions about what the correct answer should have been. A lively atmosphere develops, and many participants become very enthusiastic.

In addition to playing games and sharing information, there is also plenty of space to get to know each other better.

After taking the oath of office in the municipal council chamber, the day ends with a social gathering.

The teams scan the answers to the tasks into the Skifflebox, making the current standings of the teams visible.

Impact

The goal of the game is achieved. People find the day to be informative, active, and enjoyable. They also mention that they liked getting to know other new colleagues.

Where previously everyone would quickly leave after the oath of office, now many people stay longer at the social gathering, exchanging contact information.
